A former Saudi government institution, the establishment of the General Authority of Meteorology dates back to when Saudi Arabia established the General Directorate of Meteorology in 1370 AH, corresponding to 1950. The directorate was then restructured in 1981, corresponding to 1401 AH, to become the Department of Meteorology and Environmental Protection. It was entrusted with the role of the body responsible for the environment in Saudi Arabia at the national level, in addition to its role in the field of meteorology. Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was appointed President-General of the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection until August 17, 2013, when he was relieved of his position and Dr. Abdulaziz bin Omar Al-Jasser was appointed in his place.[1] Then he was relieved of his position, and Dr. Khalil bin Musleh Al-Thaqafi was appointed, then he was relieved of his position on August 30, 2019.
